Heat, blocks, and many more!


Development update: Heat is now largely done! Lasers and microwaves now apply heat, and many blocks, such as thrusters and gyros, generate heat. There are also new blocks such as the radiator and heat pipes to handle heat, and nuclear fuel rods and turbines to harness it for power! Meanwhile, we also added a range to wires to give them a little more flavor, and the subspace fuel pipe to give the same functionality to rocket fuel... at a cost. Center of thrust and center of mass are now displayed with thrusters so players can align their thrusters. We've also added hints at the bottom right for the block you have selected to help new players learn the game. Other changes:

  • New block options for defense (insulation to protect against lasers and isolate heat, electrotempered plating to convert power into protection)
  • Better physics interpolation, especially in dial-up mode
  • Lasers now show a glow where they hit; no more visual ambiguity
  • Fixed main menu tooltips sometimes not closing
  • Ported old backend to a better one (for security/efficiency/ease of developing blocks)
  • UI scaling is fixed for large resolutions, and can be changed in the settings menu independently of resolution.
  • Better UI for tooltips in the tech tree, highlighted different classes of techs in the tech tree instead of the tier
  • Gyros try to offload small portions of their own spin to thrusters and core
  • New control algorithm causes ship controls to no longer "bounce" around a central point
  • Using CTRL allows looking and aiming at a different direction than the way the ship is facing without turning the ship or entering the magnifier.

We've also added more block options for defense - insulation to protect against lasers, and electrotempered plating to convert power into protection.
